A responsible catch from the region
Netherlands is a country abounding in water and is assured of a varied flora and fauna, beautiful rivers, two lakes and seas. Previously there were even three seas. Besides the North Sea and Wadden Sea, there was still the Southern Sea; an inlet of the North Sea. After the damming (Afsluitdijk) in 1932, the name Southern Sea was replaced by Ijsselmeer.
More than 1.100 km2 of salt water changed into sweet water. This had major negative, but also positive consequences for the fishing industry and nature. The latter is celebrated, and was redeemed in the label: Zuiderzeezilver (Silver of the Southern Sea).
